Jeff Allen, Managing Director, Castle Sound & Vision

Nottingham based Castle Sound & Vision is the leading home cinema, home automation and hi-fi specialists in the East Midlands. It provides a complete design and installation service including sound and vision throughout the home, lighting control and telephone systems, internet access, home security and entry systems. Castle also designs and installs home cinemas, showcased in the stunning new home cinema in its showroom which features all the latest in new technology.

Jeff set up Castle Sound & Vision in 1997 having spotted a gap in the market for a specialist hi-fi store in Nottingham. Castle later became one of the first companies in the area to embrace the new multi room technologies, a trend that has continued with Castle now a leader in the field. In a business characterised by high net worth customers usually demanding in their requirements, a high level of customer service is essential. Being on the (b)leading edge of technology has its problems too, and Jeff is only too happy to discuss the importance of understanding the real costs that drive a business and not just thinking about the gross profit margin!

Philip Trease, Director, Weavers of Nottingham Wine Merchants

Based in the centre of Nottingham Weavers is one of city's oldest independent businesses. Established in 1844 by Edward Cossal Weaver it began as a public house before its purchase in 1897 by George Trease, who expanded and introduced a small wholesale wine and spirits business. The public house long sold, Weavers today supplies a comprehensive and creative range of wines, spirits and liqueurs throughout the UK from the popular easy drinking styles through to the traditional and more unusual, rare and sought after products.

Philip Trease is the 5th generation of the family to be involved in the business. Graduating from Newcastle University with a degree in Business Management he worked for Boots The Chemists in the early days of e-commerce and interactive TV and joined Weavers in 1998. In 2000 he won the Roosevelt Memorial Travelling Scholarship and spent three months travelling around the USA studying the wine trade and the evolution of online shopping. Upon his return he set out his clear direction for launching Weaverswines.com and in 2001 the website was the regional winner of the UK Online for Business Awards. He continues to lead on website development and is involved with buying a portfolio of wines and spirits and in developing relationships with the Nottingham business world.
