Mike Hunter, CEO, betterlanguages.com Ltd

betterlanguages.com offers translation services between English and all major languages. Much of its work is for UK exporters and its clients include mothercare, M&S, Iceland Foods, Thorntons and Avery Dennison. It also works with local SMEs translating brochures, marketing materials, websites and product information.

Mike and Beatriz Hunter established the business in the late 1980s but it really took off in 2005 following its new website launch and major contract wins. Export focussed, it translates for UK customers working in global markets whilst also acting as an importer, using a network of freelance in-country translators in 27 countries over five continents. Key to business success is firstly, global sourcing and secondly, a close working relationship by email and telephone between the client, translators and project manager. Translators simply require a high quality broadband connection to enable them to work anywhere in the world, as with two lead translators in Australia and Gaza who collaborate on many major projects. Betterlanguages.com typesets work in right to left for Arabic and Hebrew languages and although outsourced, the typesetter is UK based!

Jane Albon, Managing Director and Founder, Natures Purest Ltd

Natures Purest is a business that designs and manufactures a unique range of organic, naturally coloured cotton baby products and markets over 200 lines that include baby gifts, nursery bedding, nursery décor, clothing, toys and soft shoes. It manages the business from seed to shelf, supervising farms, harvesting, spinning, weaving and manufacturing throughout China. Design and marketing is based in the UK head office in South Leicestershire. Here it distributes to 300 independent UK stores including Selfridges, Harrods and Hamleys along with gift shops, garden centres and clothing stores plus a worldwide distribution through independent retailers and chain stores. In addition, growth in Natures Purest Retail, will result in stores opening in Beijing, Japan and Australia during 2010. See http://www.naturespurest.co.uk/.

Jane was already an established High Street supplier producing own brand ranges for major chain stores when she discovered the availability of unique cottons. This was the catalyst for Jane to establish Natures Purest in 2005 and to launch her own brand of nursery products.
